SIR (ARTHUR) HERBERT BREWER (1865-1928) was born and died in Gloucester, in whose Cathedral he spent almost his entire life – first as a chorister and then, from 1896 until his death, as Organist. He only left Gloucester to study: first at the Royal College of Music in London and then at Exeter College, Oxford. His setting of the Magnificat & Nunc Dimmitis in D is standard repertoire in many English cathedral choirs.
